Friday Night Me-Time: Just Me and the Remote

By the time Friday evening rolls around, I am spent.
Mentally. Emotionally. Energetically.
After a full week of decision-making, caretaking, and shape-shifting between all the roles I play, what I crave most is stillness.
Not silence, necessarily, but a moment where nothing is expected of me. A moment that belongs only to me.

Enter: Friday Night Me-Time, y’all!

No emails.
No alarms.
No events to plan or manage.
No homework to review.
Just me, my adjustable bed in its perfect recline, a warm bowl of something comforting, and the soft blue glow of the TV.

I’ve come to treasure this weekly ritual. It’s a small but powerful reclaiming of space, energy, and attention. It’s where I let my mind wander, where I lose myself in stories that are not my own (I am a pisces after all). Stories that make me feel, laugh, reflect, or simply escape. Here are some of the shows that have been keeping me company lately and maybe one of them will give your mind a place to wander, too:

Apple TV+ Favorites

  • For All Mankind - because what if history had a different outcome? Loved!

  • Dope Thief - gritty, gripping, and a not-so-gentle reminder that having choices can change everything. Get that education.

  • Your Friend & Neighbors - complicated and so well-written. Rich people!

  • Severance - eerie brilliance. Makes me question everything about work-life balance.

  • Shrinking - smart, heartfelt, and unexpectedly funny.

  • Silo - dystopia done right and with no zombies.

  • The Morning Show - messy, dramatic, and somehow very real.

  • Ted Lasso - soothing midwestern charm, but in England.

  • Slow Horses - spy drama with sharp writing and dry humor.

Prime Video Vibe

  • Harlem - a group chat come to life with style, sisterhood, and so many quotable moments.

  • Swarm - it took me a minute to get into it, but once I did? Whew. Dark, edgy, and totally unhinged in the best way.

  • Godfather of Harlem - it’s Black history, crime drama, and raw truth wrapped into one gripping series.

  • The Better Sister - full of twists, tension, and family secrets that pull you right in. I couldn’t look away.

Hulu Hits

  • Reasonable Doubt - a sharp, stylish ride led by a brilliant, confident, but vulnerable Black woman. Fashion, smarts, Black love. This needs another season ASAP.

  • Queen Sugar - layered and deeply rooted in family and healing.

  • The Old Man - Jeff Bridges with intensity and quiet grace.

  • Paradise - didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. Quietly powerful.

  • Mr. Inbetween - lowkey one of the best anti-heroes I’ve seen. Dark, dry, and unexpectedly emotional. It’s a crime show that sneaks up on you with heart and humor, all wrapped in Aussie grit.

  • Shōgun - rich, intense, and visually stunning. Most of the dialogue is in Japanese, which adds depth and authenticity. A beautifully told epic that’s worth the binge.

Max Moods

  • Hacks - sharp, layered, and laugh-out-loud funny. Two women in comedy, both brilliant and a little messy.

  • The Pitt - not sure how I feel about this one yet, but something’s keeping me curious.

  • The White Lotus - rich people behaving badly in beautiful places. Love messy drama.

  • The Flight Attendant - chaotic, stylish, and somehow both fun and anxiety-inducing.

  • Banshee - wild ride. Violent, fast-paced, and totally over the top, but I couldn’t look away.

  • Bookie - if you like your humor a little dark and a lot dysfunctional, this one delivers.

  • Warrior - this one pulls you in fast and doesn’t let go. The tension, the fight scenes, the historical backdrop, the wardrobe are all amazing. And since it’s set in San Francisco’s Chinatown, it feels a bit familiar.

  • Big Little Lies - haunting and beautifully acted. Those Monterey views and the secrets kept me glued.

  • The Wire - a classic for a reason. Gritty, smart, and still relevant.

  • Oz - dark, intense, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. But if you can handle it, it’s unforgettable.

Paramount+ Picks

  • Mayor of Kingstown - heavy, intense, and not for everyone… but I couldn’t stop watching.

  • Landman - the pacing is slow in the best way. The tension builds and pulls you in without needing to shout.

  • Lioness - all the suspense, none of the fluff. Strong women, serious stakes.

  • Rabbit Hole - just when you think you’ve figured it out, nope… plot twist. It keeps you guessing till the end.

  • Tulsa King - Sly Stallone in a new kind of role. Surprisingly solid.

  • Mobland - tense, gritty, and exactly the kind of edge-of-your-seat crime drama I love.

Netflix Nods

  • The Perfect Couple - sleek, suspenseful and easy to binge. A great weekend watch.

  • Gangs of London - brutal, beautifully shot, and full of intensity. And yes, the ruggedly handsome lead makes it even better.

  • The Diplomat - sharp writing, smart dialogue, and surprisingly addictive. I didn’t expect to like it this much.

  • Lupin - smooth and clever. A master thief with a whole lot of charm? Yes, please.

  • Beef - starts with a fender bender and spirals into full-on chaos. Raw, emotional and weirdly healing.

  • Animal Kingdom - messy, messy, messy family. Criminal empire. Emotional tension. All the ingredients for a can't-look-away kind of show.

Peacock Gem

  • Poker Face - Natasha Lyonne is a whole vibe. Watching her solve mysteries with that no-nonsense attitude? I love every second.

  • The Calling - dark and moody with a philosophical twist. Not your typical detective show.

  • Based on a True Story - equal parts satire and suspense. Pokes fun at true crime obsession while pulling you into one.

  • Dr. Death - unsettling, well-acted, and based on a terrifying real story. It'll have you side-eyeing your doctor.

  • Killing It - offbeat and funny with a little heart tucked inside the absurdity. Craig Robinson never misses.

There’s something deeply healing about a night that asks nothing of me.
No tasks to finish.
No roles to play.
Just quiet, comfort, and a good show.
And yes, my watchlist leans heavy on crime, chaos, and complicated characters. But don’t judge ;). This is my me-time, and it fills my cup exactly how I need it to.

Friday nights have become my soft landing.
I protect them like sacred ground.

Because the truth is, we all need something that’s just for us.
Even if it’s just a remote, an adjustable bed, and a few hours of peace.
